When grandson Derek was 5 and in kindergarten he had his Halloween party at school and he went dressed as a policeman. He chose that costume because his idol is Officer Eric, a young man who has been a family friend for many years and grew up to become a policeman.
I picked Derek up after school and intended to surprise him with a rondezvous with the real Officer Eric for a photo session. We got to the pre-arranged meeting spot- and we were both surprised to find a Criminal Guy there.
Officer Derek was VERY brave ( after realizing that the Criminal Guy was really his good buddy...and amazingly enough the real Officer Eric's dad.)
After chasing the Criminal Guy around the parking lot, blowing his whistle and attracting lots of attention from passing shoppers, Officer Derek noticed a squad car out on the highway and looking for a little backup he pretended to flag him into the parking lot.
You should have seen the shocked look on that little boys face when the squad car actually pulled into the parking lot!
And it was THE REAL OFFICER ERIC!!!!
It's good to know that the 'men in blue' are there when you need them!!
